Tutankhamun's Gold Coffin

One of the most beautiful, and valuable, things found in Tutankhamun's tomb was this solid gold inner coffin. You can see the amazing amount of detail which the ancient craftsmen managed to put into the metal.

When you look at this face, it is probably exactly what Tutankhamun looked like.

The coffin is made of solid gold. It is 74" (180 cm) long, 20" (50cm) wide and 20" (50cm) high.

Tutankhamun is holding the crook and flail. Like a kings crown today, these showed that he was the ruler of Egypt.

Tutankhamun was buried in three coffins, all fitted one inside the other.

Tutankhamun's mummy is still in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings

The treasure is on show in a museum in Egypt's capital city, Cairo.
