The well preserved temple at Denderah is another highlight for
anyone visiting Egypt. The temple is entered through this impressive
gateway. Sven did wonder how the builders got that big stone
up on top of the gate, but Ostiches don't know much about building,
so he didn't wonder for too long.
Like many of the temples Sven visited, the area round the temple
(called the temple precinct) is full of interesting
bits and pieces for a passing Ostrich to sit on. This Sphinx,
like so many others, has unfortunately lost it's head at some
point in the last 2000 years.
Perhaps the coolest thing about Denderah temple is that the stairs
which lead up on to the roof are still there, and the visiting
Ostrich can follow in the footsteps of the ancient priests as
they took the statue of the god out to survey it's property.
As you can see the view is quite impressive.
Unfortunately lots of the carvings at Denderah have been badly
damaged but with a bit of exploring you can still find some amazingly
well preserved inscriptions. In a once secret vault under the
temple Sven found this carving of the god Horus, whos impressive
Temple he had visited at Edfu.
