Of all the splendors of Ancient
Thebes, the jewel has to be the magnificent Luxor Temple. This
monument, built on a much more human scale than the massive Karnak
complex is less overwhelming and much easier to take in when visiting.
Over the coming weeks This section of the site will be expanded
to give an all too brief glimpse of the splendors of the Temple. |
 |
The approach to the temple is lined with human headed
sphinxes. Interestingly each one has it's own facial expression. This
ranges from the serious to the smiling. |
 |
Amongst the fairly recent
discoveries on this site the most notable was the excavation of
a large quantity of statues which had been buried to make way
for new additions to the temple precinct. Some of these are shown
in the Luxor Museum section of this
site.
